Subject: Holtz' Press Luncheon, 2009 Recruiting, Caulton Tudor, etc

Tuesday press luncheon. - Holtz said this was a year he has never
seen before for injuries. To the obvious question of conditioning
of the athletes he said most of the injuries were broken bone type
injuries. “And that there is no amount of practice or weight
training that is going to prevent broken bone type injuries,” said
Holtz: “ankle, shoulders, knees”. Holtz reiterated what I have
said that with all the new players you’re having to insert in the
lineup, you cannot get too complicating on your play calling. It’s
back to simple stuff. I was impressed by the upbeat nature of Holtz
and the guy knows every player on the team. With 80 some players on
a college team that is impressive.

Caulton Tudor of the N&O called it best in his article after
the W. Va win in that ECU has had a history of having strong teams
yet come down the final stretch and lose to a Sou Miss, Marshall,
NC State. And look at what NC State has been doing. They have only
lost by 7 pts at the most in 90% of their losses this year.

People want to talk about 1991 as did Tudor. The only thing
is we had a very special qtrback that year who ended up in the NFL
for over 10 years. Jeff “Shake n Bake” Blake.

On a lighter note our recruiting is starting to shape up
with signing day soon. Just looking at Rivals.com and comparing us
to Clemson and N C State we have a pretty good class. We have more
verbal commitments than either schools. Of the verbal commits there
are 4 guys in the 285 – 315 class, one at 6-7 322 rated 3 stars by
Rivals. 4 of the 15 are rated in top 100 by Rivals at their
position. N.C. State nor Clemson has more than 2 recruits for 2009
close to the 300 lb. weight committed yet.
